Make children’s Christmas stockings for the Johnson County Christmas Bureau

The Johnson County Christmas Bureau gave out almost 2,000 stockings last year and still could have used more! If you want to help, you can find sewing patterns and instructions here.

If you make these projects, please store them safely at home until after the crisis is over, then bring them to church for collection and delivery.

Make face masks for healthcare workers

Protective gear may be in short supply at some facilities. Write or call your legislators

Urge them to insure the ready availability of COVID-19 tests, safety equipment, and ventilators, and to act on behalf of those who are economically vulnerable as a result of the pandemic. You can find their names and contact info here.

Here’s a sample of what your letter or call could say:

Dear _______.  My name is ________ and I am a resident of Shawnee/Lenexa Kansas.  I would like to express my concern about the plight of those who are in difficult and threatened circumstances due to the COVID19 international crisis.  Please help through immediate legislation or other commitments to our medical, rescue and security forces, those who have lost jobs, those who are ill or hungry, those who have no insurance or care systems, and those who are making hard decisions about how to help our world survive.  And I urge you to act to make safety equipment and ventilators readily available to hospitals and healthcare facilities.

I appreciate your quick attention since lives are definitely at stake

Thank you.

Write thank you notes to your postal and other delivery workers – and anyone else whose services you’re grateful for during this time.

Make Toys for Shelter Pets

If you have a supply of old t-shirts, you can make these pull-toys for shelter dogs. Store them at home with you until the health crisis is over and church is meeting in person again. At that time you can bring them to church and we’ll deliver them to the shelter. Find a tutorial here!
