Earlier this year St. Paul’s Church Council targeted four areas of focus for the remainder of 2018 and continuing into 2019. One of those goals is to “facilitate the spiritual development of young people.” We have made tremendous progress in this goal just in the last few weeks.
- Jamie Turk came on board August 15 to lead a new emphasis on Children and Family Ministries. She began after some outstanding work by a children’s ministry design team led by Andrea Murdock and last Sunday we unveiled a new Sunday morning format.
- Because we want to help parents with the unique challenge of growing children into disciples, we began a new parenting group last Sunday as well. This group meets at 11:00 and spends some of their time looking at the same topic that their children are covering in Kids’ Place (the new format for what was Sunday School).
- I learned today of some exciting events for kids that will be coming in the next few months, including service opportunities. I won’t spill the secrets here but keep your eyes open.
Our children today represent the Church of today and the Church of the future. Our ministry to and with kids is critically important. I’m proud to be the pastor of a church that is choosing to take steps to emphasize this without reducing our emphasis on other areas of need.
