read bible daily

Our Sermon Series is exploring our mission to “Serve God by serving others.” In preparation for this week, we are reading Luke 9:10-17 to learn how serving our community will bring us closer to Jesus.

Find the daily readings below along with questions for reflection. Join (or begin!) the discussion in the comments. We’d love to hear from you about how reading the Bible daily is bringing you closer to God and one another.

You also may be interested in joining a small group that focuses on exploring the scripture for the following Sunday’s sermon or learning how to approach Bible study in general – or a variety of other opportunities to “seek answers to our questions” as part of a group. Check it out here!

  1. Spending time alone is hard to do- sometimes harder when a pandemic has made virtual communication all the more important (and invasive.) In the midst of COVID, I have to intentionally spend time where I mute my phone and laptop, to be in prayer. Journaling has also been crucial for me to see the moments where I sense God’s presence more fully, and likewise I feel as though having the pages to go back to see how the dots connect in my walk with Jesus. It’s sometimes easy to look at the snapshots of our day to day, but when we consider our faith and life as a whole, we can see the times in which we aren’t even fully aware of Jesus’ presence in our lives.

  2. November 3 – I think finding time alone with Jesus is difficult right now because when I do have a break I find myself caring for others, checking in to make sure people are okay, or I’m just so exhausted by everything that I just want to sleep or rest. I think it is something we have to be intentional about. I find myself using my drive to work to pray or mediate on something I am praying about. I also try to use small breaks in my day because carving out a large amount of time is difficult right now.

  3. November 4 – The past seven months have been extremely challenging and have brought many feelings of inadequacy. I feel much like the disciples in that I just don’t have enough to give to everyone who needs it, especially at work. When there is so much going on around me and I’m trying to juggle so many balls in the air I know someone/something is not being cared for in the proper way. Knowing God will provide and is always there is a comfort, it’s the letting go of the thought that I know what I need and letting God give me what I need that I find most difficult. :)

  4. When I’m working at the food pantry and people are so grateful for what we can give them, I realize how disconnected most people are from one another. When I take time to listen to the people, I feel both inadequate and grateful. I wish our giving could be more targeted and personal. I wish those in need could be surrounded by a loving community and I pray that “the Hub” can become that community for them.
