Why Give Blood?

Community Blood Center must collect almost 600 units of blood daily to meet the needs of area hospital patients. As there is no substitute for blood, they rely on volunteer donors like you to supply the life-saving blood and blood components to hospitals in Kansas and Missouri.

This drive is occurring during a time when the Community Blood Center has declared a Blood Emergency, which happens when there has been a shortage of donors or if there has been a very unusual demand for blood products. Blood and blood products have a very limited shelf life, so it is very important that the CBC can count on faithful donors at drives such as ours. Donors who have blood types that are in particular demand, and who meet the minimum criteria to do so, will be given the opportunity to donate double units of blood. These appointments take a bit longer, and are made available at 8:30, 9:30 10:30 and 11:30. This may be an opportunity to double your lifesaving gift!

Requirements for donation

A donor must be at least 16 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good health at the time of donation. All blood types are needed, however, if you know that you have types O negative or O positive, please make a special effort to donate. These types are especially valuable in critical situations. Donors who are younger than 18 years of age have additional eligibility criteria and will need to provide a parental permission form. This form is available in the rack on the front of the ConneXions Center at church.
